Ugandan women's table tennis players started on a right footing by winning a gold medal in the team’s events as the men settled for a silver medal in the ITTF Eastern Africa Regional Senior Championships (RSC) 2024 currently taking place at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The regional championship rolled off on Monday and is scheduled to end on Thursday, April 25.

Uganda is represented by a youthful team of men and women against giants that include Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.

In the women's category, it is Uganda and Ethiopia that have fielded a full team of five players.

The men's team includes Samuel Ankunda, Joseph Sebatindira, Rashid Nsereko, Jonathan Senyonga, and Benjamin Achuma.

Jemimah Nakawala, Shanitah Namaala, Judith Nangonzi, Patra Nasirumbi, and Irene Nekesa make up the women's team.

The regional tournament being hosted in Uganda for the first time has attracted 27 female players from Djibouti (3), Ethiopia (5), Kenya (5), Madagascar (4), Mauritius (2), Rwanda (4), Tanzania (1) and Uganda (5).

The male is from Comoros (2), Djibouti (3), Ethiopia (5), Kenya (5), Madagascar (4), Mauritius (4), Rwanda (5), Somalia (1), Sudan (3) and Uganda (5).

All the players that finish at the quarterfinal stage will qualify for the ITTF 2024 Africa Championship in Ethiopia in July this year.
