On May 27, 1980, former President Milton Obote returned to Uganda after nine years in exile in Tanzania. He landed in Bushenyi, western Uganda.
Obote took over all powers of state from Sir Edward Mutesa II the Kabaka of Buganda and President.
Mutesa the 35th King of Buganda Kingdom is remembered to have been the first Ugandan President after the colonial rule.
