Many lawmakers blamed the country's Food and Goods Authority watchdog for failing to prevent the problem from developing into a scandal.

Fipronil is commonly used to get rid of fleas, lice and ticks from animals but the European Union has banned its use in the food industry.
Millions of eggs have been pulled from supermarket shelves across Europe and dozens of poultry farms closed since the discovery of fipronil.
