KABAROLE - A total of six privately-owned primary schools failed to open on Thursday (October 15, 2020) for the beginning of their second term as per the revised academic year calendar.

This was occasioned by their failure to meet the required standard operating guidelines that were issued by the health and education ministries towards the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

The guidelines include foot-operated hand-washing facilities at the entrance and around the school premises, fencing off the school premises as a measure of restricting community access, temperature screening of learners and staff at the gate as well as maintaining a social distance of at least two metres between learners.

The affected schools include Toro Boarding Primary School, St Julius Primary School, Kansenene Primary School, Smart Nursery and Primary School, Fort Portal Primary School and St. Felix Primary School all in Kabarole district.

Patrick Rwakaikara, the Kabarole District Education Officer, said the state of the affected schools was posing a health risk to the learners. He, however, said if the affected schools meet the required guidelines, they will be allowed to open.
