Suspected robber lynched

A mob of bodaboda riders in Rukungiri have lynched a suspected robber in Rukungiri and destroyed his property including houses and cut down banana plantation at Omukarere Rwentondo Ward, Eastern division in Rukungiri Municipality on Monday.

Over 2000 bodaboda riders from Kebisoni, Buyanja and Rukungiri towns converged at Nyakibale stage and decided to mount a search for robbers of their motorcycles who also kill some of their colleagues.

At Omukarere trading centre, they searched a home of one, Paulo Kafero, 34, and found in his room a stolen motorcycle registration number UDP 650R whose plates has been changed to UDA 650R using a sticker.

Kafero's second wife Sofia Kyampaire told police that her husband was habitual robber and would sometimes return back home at 3:00am with some stolen items.

Police also found a toy gun, hammers and other weapons.

Kyampaire said that her husband would steal whatever he come across that he can sell and get money.

By the time of search, Kafero was at his second home in Kibizi, Kihanga in Buhunga Sub County where some of the bodabodas rushed and lynch him before Police arrived.

The district Police commander, Ronald Wotwali confirmed Kafero's death and the arrest two other two suspected robbers who he declined to name so as not to interfering with investigations.

Wotwali said that when Police rushed to Kihanga where the suspected robber was hiding, other bodaboda riders set Kyampaire's home on fire and destroyed all her gardens.

DPC condemned the act of taking the law in their hands and pledged to arrest the culprits who were behind the killing and destruction of property.
