KCCA's defence has worried its fans and players alike

KCCA Leopards' ‘big men' Martha Soigi and Monica Siima are tired of playing second fiddle and want to win this year's championship.

But despite having one of the best assembled and experienced squads KCCA lost their first game of the campaign against the UCU Lady Canons; which was only a temporary setback according to Soigi.

"It is obvious we want to win this year's championship. Against UCU we were disorganised but we have to improve on the teams' chemistry," Soigi said

"We are yet to gel with the new recruits and one of them Florence Kalume is very good on offense but still lacking on defence but I know she will pick up as we go along because when you play for KCCA then you'll obviously learn to play defence," Siima added after their league fixture against KIU.

But for KCCA fans, defence will matter less at this moment in time because things are not only happening on the front court for the Leopards, but they are happening in style ever since Kalume was signed.

Named MVP in the Burundi and Uganda national leagues and the Africa Zone 5 competitions on several occasions Kalume who previously played for Crane High School is back in Uganda to help the Leopards reclaim the league title and in their pursuit of the African Championship.

But it has to start with the league and despite her slow start with KCCA the 26-year-old looks to have settled in and against A-1 Challenge she scored a game high 22 points and thrilled the crowd with her amazing, dribbles, passes and shooting skills.

She had earlier finished in double figures in the earlier 3 games she stated for the Leopards and looks to lift the face of the Leopards and the ladies game this year.
