THE Police’s anti-stock theft unit has arrested a 32-year-old Karimojong warrior suspected to be part of the group that stole animals in Otuke district.
Peter Logeli was arrested in Kotido district by forces pursuing a group of Karimojong who stole 22 head of cattle from Olilim sub-county, Otuke district.
Grace Ewiko, the unit’s commander in Lira, said a butcher, to whom Logeli had sold some of the stolen animals, led them to Logeli’s home in Panyangara parish, where he was arrested.
Ewiko said their investigation revealed that Logeli and three other warriors stole the cattle. They were armed with a gun and bow and arrows.
“We are searching for the other three because we do not want people to go back to the camp due to such unlawful acts,†she said.
Lira district Police commander Richard Aruk Maruk said Logeli was taken to Lira Central Police under tight security because a mob in Olilim wanted to lynch him.
He will face charges of theft, he added.
