According to the state minister for water, Jennifer Namuyangu, the programme that will cover sanitation, is a joint venture between the Government and donors. The first, Namuyangu said, was the Water and Sanitation Development Facility for South-West Uganda that began in 2006.
The programme, covering 21 districts, was initially funded by Australia but the European Union later came on board. Underthe first phase, 40 urban centres in the south-west regionwere provided with piped water. the second phase will take on 75 urban centres.
