FIRST lady Janet Museveni has decried the poor parenting culture in Uganda, which has made children more vulnerable due to inadequate love, care and support.
Mrs. Museveni said it hurt to learn that parents had become abusers and tormentors of their children. “Parents need to take care of the welfare of their children and give them the care and love they deserve,†she said.
The first lady was speaking at the end of year thanksgiving service for Wakisa Ministries on Thursday at Bakuli in Kampala.
Wakisa Ministries is a Christian-based NGO in Kampala founded in 2005. It cares for girls with unwanted pregnancies, destitutes and the sexually abused.
Mrs. Museveni noted that it is the role of parents to guarantee children’s rights.
Vivian Kityo, the Wakisa ministries Chairperson of Directors, called for stronger action to protect children against abuses like rape, defilement, child sacrifice and child trafficking.
