THE prime suspect in the sh700m robbery from a Stanbic Bank bullion van has regretted having taken part in the robbery on February 7.
Joseph Ogola, 25, was the commander of the Securicor Gray team that was escorting sh700m in a bullion van.
In an interview at Mbale Central Police Station, Ogola said while hiding in Kenya, he received reports that his relatives were being arrested in connection with the robbery.
“I made up my mind to come out and face the law instead of my relatives undergoing suffering,†Ogola said.
He said the cash was divided among him and two others near Nagongera trading centre after buying bags and civilian clothes. He said each went his way with the money.
“I cannot remember the exact amount of money I took, but I think it was about sh200m,†Ogola said, adding that the driver of the van, Mugisha and a guard, Fred Woswama, also carried away cash in bags.
