Hon. Rona Ritah Ninsiima, 32, is the Kabale district Woman Member of Parliament. The MP, who beat former agriculture minister Hope Mwesigye, is still single. Nickson Turyahikayo had a chat with her.
Who is the lucky man in your life?
So far I have not committed myself to anyone. I am single, but not searching.
Do you have children?
No. I don’t have any child.
Don’t you want to get a husband?
I want to. I also want to have children, but I have not got someone to have children with. You see, I can get a child if I wanted, that is easy. But the question is with which man?
Have you ever been in a relationship?
Yes I have, but it did not work out.
It’s personal. It was between me and him and I don’t see any reason why it should be in the press.
How did you meet?
We hailed from the same place and we later became lovers.
What attracted you to him?
He was handsome, caring and believed in God.
What if he comes back to you now?
He came back and asked me for forgiveness. I forgave him, but I could not take him back because he hurt my heart very much.
But they say the first cut is the deepest?
You can believe it if you want to, but not me. I don’t believe it.
Who is your ideal man?
A very responsible man, caring, single, honest, committed to family issues, God fearing and one who understands me well enough not to hinder my service to the people of Kabale.
Don’t you think your position as MP may scare away men who are interested in having an affair with you?
I don’t think so, because being an MP does not change my character as Ninsiima.
Do you think your beauty charmed voters into electing you?
I heard people in rallies saying: “I can’t fail to vote this young looking girl with a beautiful smile.†But apart from that, there were many factors that pulled voters to me. I had a good manifesto, my popularity as a radio presenter as well as news anchor and my social life.
Your plans for Kabale?
My major plan is to re-unite the people who were divided by the elections. I am now on a reconciliation campaign, which I will take all over the district.
Where did you get all that money to beat a minister?
I did not spend a lot of my money in the campaigns. I was naturally loved so people even fundraised to fuel my campaign car.
