The head of the criminal division of the Kampala High Court, Justice Wilson Kwesiga has threatened to free Ivan Katongole, the prime suspect in the women murders that took place at Nansana and Katabi in Wakiso district last year.
Justice Kwesiga says if the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) does not produce witnesses to testify against Katongole by Monday next week, he will have no other option but to release him.
Katongole had appeared to present his second bail application, the first one having been rejected in September this year by Justice Jane Frances Abodo.
Then state attorney Rachael Bikhole opposed the bail application, and Justice Kwesiga demanded to know why Katongole's case has not been fixed for hearing since August last year when investigations where concluded.
The judge then declined to hear Katongole's bail application and fixed his trial for December 10 2018, failure of which he will release him on bail from Kigo prison.
He is jointly charged with Hellen Nabagala and Andrew Kizito for the alleged murder of a one Rose Namuli, a former hair dresser at Mpala village.
Namuli's body was recovered from a banana plantation with sticks stuffed in her private parts.
The three are currently held at Kigo prison awaiting trial before the High court.
