Six of the Crested Cranes players travelled late for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women Championship that starts September 12 to 22 in South Africa.
They are; Lillian Mutuuzo, Juliet Nalukenge, Shadia Nankya , Grace Aluka, Aisha Namukisa and Shamirah Nalujja. It didn’t travel with the team on Monday following a delay in processing their visas since the players are under 18 years of age.
Crested Cranes and giants Cameroon are the two guest teams that will feature in the football event.
Uganda is drawn in Group C alongside Swaziland, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Hosts South Africa will compete in Group A together with Botswana, Madagascar and Malawi, while Group B is comprised of Zambia, Cameroon, Lesotho and Mozambique.
Uganda will be the third East African country to feature in the COSAFA Women’s Championship after Tanzania (2011) and Kenya (2017).
Cameroon who are one of the favorites to the to walk away with trophy, were runner-ups at the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, while Uganda finished second in the just concluded CECAFA Women Challenge Cup in Rwanda.
