Uganda continued to improve in the second round, finishing fourth on the day as the All Africa Challenge Trophy raged on at the Achimota Golf Club in Ghana on Thursday.
Eva Magala’s 78 and Irene Nakalembe’s 79 counted for Uganda’s score on the day, an improvement of 7 and 8 strokes from each of them respectively as Martha Babirye who was Uganda’s best scorer on day one retuned a non-scoring 88.
Before they left the Ugandan ladies set themselves a target of at least finishing third, which is now in reach if they continue mastering the championship course.
Uganda started the opening day in fifth place in the event that has attracted golfers from 18 countries.
Each country is represented by three golfers, with the best two scorers on each team contributing to the team total score in each of the three rounds.
Defending champions South Africa led by Myeki Zethu, Hall Casandra and Vad Der Watt Lenanda still maintained their lead, 15 strokes ahead of second placed Tanzania who fielded Hawa Wanyeche, Angel Robinson and Hussein Madina.
Kenya is in third place, two strokes ahead of Uganda, going into the last round of the biennial event.
