A primary school teacher in Luwero district has been arrested for allegedly defiling one of his P2 pupils.

Sailat Onguwo, a  teacher at Tiger Junior School in Bamunanika, was arrested on Thursday after the seven-year-old girl reported the incident to her parents who in turn informed the police in Luwero.

Onguwo  was initially held at Mazzi Police Post, but was later transferred to Luwero Police Station.

The Savannah regional Police spokesman, Paul Kangavve said the incident took place on Thursday after the suspect called the pupil to his house.

A medical report from Kasana Health centre IV in Luwero indicates she suffered a ruptured hymen and bruises on her private parts.

Luwero district secretary for education and health, Zena Nasur said the authorities were closely following the incident and would in due course decide what course of action to take against both the school and the suspect in particular.
