KAMPALA - The curtains have drawn over the 8th Hospitality Business Week at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and there has been plenty to feed the eyes on.

The annual event has seen students do drama skits, behind-the-scenes movie shoots, franchising skills, emceeing, and much more.

People from the business sector have been a part of the event that started Tuesday and ended Friday.

The final day has been the big one, but before that, there have been pre-event activities like a charity walk in the village of Bubirabi in Mbale town.

The institution also distributed food items and other basic needs like sanitary pads to school-going children in the town.

Among the activities was also a football match – between Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC and MUBS – and the launch of the Makerere Hospitality Association.

Mauricius Kanyange heads the media portfolio at MUBS. She said the celebrations also aim at forging a way forward on how to engage the public and different organisations to develop the country into middle-class economy.

This year’s theme was ‘Hospitality for graduates’ readiness for Vision 2040’.

Michelle Kiconco, a lecturer at the hospitality management department, told New Vision that the hospitality week also equips students with hands-on skills in the arts and showbiz.

She said that through such events, employers sometimes spot the best students and offer them jobs.

"This is a practical event with activities such as filming and showbiz skills,” she said, adding that such benefits can come in handy to the students after school.
