The Chairman of Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, Dr Joseph Anthony Zziwa, is worried about the continued shunning of COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by Ugandans.

The prelate said COVID-19 is real, exists and kills and that "as we talk today the death rate is increasing rapidly".

"Don't live in that theology that the disease is for old people, that the young ones because they are dynamic, they are also dying of this disease," he said.

He added: "Be brothers and sisters' keeper, most especially the youth. Put on masks, wash our hands with soap and sanitizers and social distance."

Zziwa said this while closing a week-long scientific function of National Catholic Youth Conference at the Secretariat in Nsambya. The event was marked under the theme; "Youth man, I say to you, arise" (Luke7:14) with the sub-theme I'm my brother's keeper (Gen. 4-9)". The participants were drawn from 19 dioceses that constitute the Episcopal Conference in Uganda.

The closing Mass was attended by the Bishop of Luweero Diocese, Paul Ssemogerere among others.

He said that these days people no longer observe SOPs at all, something that has increased the spread of COVID 19.

"Youth, be brother to fellow brother and sister in this area, so we shall be able to help each other," Zziwa said.
