Senior diplomat Stephen Nabeta has passed on. It is however, not yet clear, what he succumbed to.

Initial reports indicate that he could have succumbed to COVID-19 but sources close to the family say he was hospitalised last Friday after having health complications arising from diabetes.

Nabeta was one the first ambassadors to be deployed by President Yoweri Museveni when he took over power. Nabeta's first appointment was in Rwanda in 1986.

He also, at one time, served as the head of protocol and as the permanent secretary in the foreign affairs ministry from 1996 to 1998.

Nabeta was also one of the founders and board chairman of the eight-member board of Mercantile Credit Bank.
