Museveni commissions 37.3km road in Ntungamo

President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni on Wednesday commissioned the 37.3km Ntungamo-Mirama/Kagitumba road.

The road was constructed by the Government of Uganda and Trade Market East Africa who committed funds to improve and upgrade selected road sections under the national network to enhance economic development and improve bilateral relations with its neighbours in the region.

In a statement released, on Wednesday afternoon, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) noted that "The existing gravel road was a class C gravel road first constructed in the 1960s traversing through a rolling hilly terrain in an area that lies between 1,200 m to 1, 524 m above sea level. The project offers town roads that are 3.9km around the border area of Mirama Hills."

UNRA noted that the sh85.9b road was designed and upgraded with the objectives of improving access to goods/passenger transport services and reduce transport costs and also improve access to social and economic development opportunities along the route and integration with rest of the Country infrastructure.

It is also supposed to serve as an international route to Rwanda-Uganda-Kenya as part of the Northern Corridor Route.

On Tuesday, Museveni commissioned the Kashenyi-Mitooma (11.52km) and Kitabi Seminary Access Road(0.8KM).
