Mandy Juruni, the Silverbacks coach is confident of his team's chances ahead of the second window of the AFRO Basketball qualifiers.

Juruni believes they have the potential to qualify for AfroBasket.

"The preparations we are going to have will help us to fine-tune our plans. We are also going to rectify the mistakes we made in Alexandria. We have the potential to make it to the final competition," Juruni reasoned.

Juruni was speaking at a luncheon in Kampala, organised by the National Council of Sports (NCS) to welcome back the team from Egypt for the first window of the qualifiers.

The Silverbacks who were placed in Group E alongside Egypt, Morocco, and Cape Verde managed to win two games out of three at Al Ittihad stadium.

They finished second in the group with five points after defeating Morocco (94-90) and Cape Verde (101-98), a point behind table leaders Egypt.

The Silverbacks will now have a two weeks break before the local-based players resume training on December 15 in preparation for the second qualifying window due to take place from February 19-21 2021 at a venue yet to be confirmed. The team will also have a two weeks' camp before the tip-off of the game according to FUBA president Sserunjogi.

"We are going to start our preparations for the second window early enough. We believe we shall win more than one game in the next qualifiers to progress to Afro basketball. I want to thank the players and technical team for the tremendous job they have done", noted Sserunjogi.

NCS through its chairman Don Rukare, secretary-general Patrick Ogwel promised to provide support to the Silverbacks in their preparations for the second window.
