The Kenyan High Commission has donated an assortment of items to children suffering from cancer.

The items included double decker beds complete with beddings, food, milk, sugar, cooking oil, and milk among others.

Speaking while handing over assortments of items to Blessed a Child Foundation (BCF) a local Non-Government Organisation (NGO), Kenyan Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo said, the Kenya High Commission with the support from Kenyan companies in Uganda, decided to donate gifts to children as they celebrate this year's Jamhuri Day.

Kilonzo called for a need to ensure that the children enjoy their childhood against a background of secure and loving family life, adding that this will enable them develop their full potential and grow into responsible adults.

He commended the organisation for providing care to children who are currently undergoing cancer treatment at the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI).

Some of the double decker beds complete with beddings were donated to children by the Kenya High Commission.

The organisation provides care and psychosocial support services to children aged 0-15 years suffering from cancer. It provides children and their caregivers with services that include accommodation, meals, home education, transport to and from hospital at no cost.

The Executive Director of BCF Brian Walusimbi commended the Kenyan High Commission for the donation.

He said they are currently taking care of 4,000 children suffering from different types of cancers.

Walusimbi said that some children died during the lockdown because many of them were stuck in villages and could not come to Kampala to seek treatment because there was no public transport.
