Issuance of driving permits resumes Monday

The issuance of computerised driving licences will resume on Monday, December 7, 2020.

However, it will be conducted at Face Technologies headquarters in Kyambogo in Kampala.

Waiswa Bageya, the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Works and Transport said all regional offices will remain closed until further notice.

The contract of Face Technologies, a South African-based company expired in November this year but it was extended for a period of three months to pave way for the Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC)  to take over.

USPC with commence operation at Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) premises in Kampala city centre for reduced cost for privately rented premises at Kyambogo.

Winstone Katushabe, the chief licensing officer and the commissioner for transport regulations and safety in the Ministry of Works and Transport said USPC was supposed to commence operation by December 01, this year but asked for more time.

From Tuesday this week, driving permit applicants who had gone to Face Technologies head offices in Kyambogo and its regional offices were welcomed by the notice indicating that they had suspended operations.

Face Technologies commenced operations in Uganda in 2003 and converted the paper driving permits formally issued by   Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to computerized ones.

Driving permits, being issued by Face Technologies have undergone several security changes to contain likely cases of forgery.
