Pastor Mondo self-isolating after contracting COVID-19

Mondo has been out of action ever since he reported back to the anticorruption unit on Tuesday last week.

CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

Pastor Franklin Mondo Mugisha is in self-isolation and undergoing intensive care after revealing he tested positive for COVID-19.

Mondo has been under investigation by the Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema-led State House Anti-Corruption Unit over his alleged involvement in a 4.5bn fraud case with jailed Pastor Sirajje Ssemanda.

He said has been down for the last four days with the coronavirus.

Mondo has been out of action ever since he reported back to the anti-corruption unit almost two weeks ago and has been telling friends that he was sick without revealing what he was suffering from.

When contacted on Monday morning to establish whether he would report back to the unit for further investigation, the pastor said he is ill and in self-isolation at his home in Seguku, Entebbe road.

"Doctors took my samples and results confirmed that I have coronavirus, but I am getting better and I am undergoing treatment," he said.

Mondo suspects he may have contracted the virus from Wandegeya Police Station, where he was detained for one night. The first time he was summoned by the anticorruption unit, he was detained at Wandegeya but was later released on bond.

Speaking on local TV, Mondo claimed that he was harrased while in detention but eventually managed to minister his tormentators, resulting into some of them getting saved.

Mondo insists that his arrest is connected to what he termed as political witchhunt within the church, saying there were some "powerful" pastors who were following some figures within the Born-again Pentecostal churches in Uganda.

He said other victims include Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and Brother Ronnie Makabai.

Mondo, however, praised Nakalema and the investigations team for handling the matter professionally, saying his house was searched but nothing so far has been identified linking him to Ssemanda's fraud.
