Leni eying Tokyo 2021 Olympic games

The 27-year-old has been training for over seven years with British husband and wife coaching team of Kevin and Sue O’Connor.

Shida Leni's quest to represent Uganda in the Olympics has been given a boost after Espace gym extended her complimentary membership up to the Tokyo 2021 games.

Ever since Leni started training at the Silver Springs Hotel gym, she has become stronger hence her improvement as a sprinter.

The 27-year-old has been training for over seven years with British husband and wife coaching team of Kevin and Sue O'Connor.

In that time, she has broken the 400m national record on seven occasions, and last year, she broke the 200m national record, as well as winning the 400m silver medal at the World University Games in Italy, narrowly missing out on gold.

Her aim now is to make it to the Tokyo Olympics. With the membership, her coaches feel it is very likely and possible.

"Shida's 2021 target is to qualify for the Olympic Games. To do this, she needs to improve her 400m national record by a tiny amount, from 41.47 seconds to 41.35 seconds, which is only around 90cms. If she qualifies, I believe she will be the only Ugandan sprinter (male or female) at the games, as all Uganda's other representatives will be middle or long distance runners," commented Kevin.

If all goes according to plan, then it's highly possible Leni can shave a few places off her personal best and qualify for the Olympics.
