President Museveni will be campaigning in Tororo as he starts his trail in the Bukedi sub region. The news has been received with a lot of enthusiasm from vendors who have been operating in congested ramshackle structures for the last two years.

The new structure, which is expected to host over 1,500 vendors, was expected to have been commissioned in March but has been delayed due to the outbreak COVID-19 pandemic.

The construction work was undertaken by Youngjin construction - a Korean construction through financial support from the African Development bank.

The town clerk Paul Omoko said considering the COVID 19 situation at hand, it was not possible to receive the property in March since it was bound to attract a big number of excited vendors and the general public who are yearning to occupy the property.

Omoko said although the arrangements for the handover were done before the outbreak of COVID 19, the whole process has been halted until such a time the government opens up space for public gathering.

John Opio the mayor said the property is going to address the challenge of overcrowding by the vendors which has resulted in poor hygiene management.
