Amuriat suspends campaign after supporters perish in accident

The truck that was carrying supporters as well as a public address system overturned at a notorious blackspot

Forum for Democratic for Democratic Change presidential flag bearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat has suspended his campaign after two of his supporters perished in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon. 

The deceased have been identified as Zulaika Yasin, 25, a resident of Nebbi Municipality, and Hellen Picho, a Nebbi Municipality councilor.

The accident occurred at Kimor village, Panyamur Town Council in Pakwach district after a truck registration number UBB 856W that was carrying supporters as well as a public address system overturned at a notorious accident blackspot.

Several other people who were injured in the accident were taken to Panyamur Health Centre as well as Angal Hospital which is located in Nebbi.

The victims who are currently undergoing treatment include are Gloria Afoyorwoth, 25, Alfred Mugisa, Emmanuel Ocayo, Grace Cwinyai, Walter Odongo, Mildred Awachango, Scovia AwekoThimitho, Walter Agononga, Zion Bwothio, Abdul Abudungara, Trinity Muswa, Festo Odongo and Gloria Afoyorwoth.

Amuriat visited the scene empathised with the victims of the accident and said he will only resume his campaign when the casualties get well."It is something that has hit us quite hard. For that matter, we have taken the decision to suspend this campaign," Amuriat said.

Having spent his morning in Nebbi district, Amuria was expected to conclude his West Nile tour in Pakwach on Tuesday afternoon before heading to Bunyoro region on Wednesday.
