NRM Teso leaders call for fulfilment of pledges

NRM leaders from Kumi, Ngora, Bukedea and Serere have appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to commit to fulfilling pledges before the elective term ends.

Top on the list of their demands from government remains the question of cattle compensation to victims of cattle rustling.

Jacklin Amongin, the Ngora Woman MP presented a memorandum containing the long list of demands on behalf of NRM leaders from the four districts during a scientific campaign meeting chaired by Museveni, at Kumi district headquarters on Monday.

The NRM leaders from the region are also seeking compensation for victims of wars, the revival of an animal breeding centre in the region, expansion of roads and bridges and the expansion of the Soroti fruit factory.



The leaders also want government to allocate sh120b as an annual affirmative action budget for livelihood programmes in the region.

Also listed as a top priority for the region are special scholarships, the elevation of health centre IVs, the appointment of natives of the region to prominent cabinet positions and prestigious institutions, and support towards the construction of churches and a palace, among others.

Each of the four districts also have specific demands they listed for the NRM presidential flagbearer (Museveni) to handle before the current elective term ends.

The NRM leaders expressed appreciation in writing for the peace and stability in the region, elevation of Soroti to city status and Kumi to municipality status and appointment of several people from the region to Cabinet, ministerial and other government positions.

The leaders also expressed appreciation for road construction, expansion of electricity supply, and cattle restoration.
