KAMPALA - The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has tasked the Minister of Internal Affairs to take tough action against the police officers who reportedly shoot and killed Busia Municipality Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Macho's bodyguard

Ivan Kakayi was shot on November 15, 2020, at one of the local churches in Sofia village, Busia District. Kakayi, a UPDF soldier, was killed as his boss, Macho was in the church praying.

Moses Kakiryo, the Busia District Police Commander later said the officer-in-charge of the flying squad and the officer-in-charge of crime intelligence were arrested as prime suspects to help with investigations.

Kadaga urged the Government to ensure that the perpetrators who did this in daylight are apprehended and checked.

"The issue happened in the morning and the perpetrators are known. Something must be done. We expect to hear from you on the protection of Macho and follow up on the case because they will shoot another person, and life will continue," she said.

She also directed the internal affairs minister to quickly examine the situation in Busia to ensure that Macho is given security.

This was after Macho complained to Parliament that despite complaints to the Inspector General of Police, he has not been given another bodyguard.

He said his life and the lives of his family members were in danger. "As I talk now, I have no security at all. For a night, I move almost in three guest houses looking for safety. Government knows that my life is in danger, I have written a letter to the IGP but up to now as I talk, no action has been taken at all," Macho complained.

He wondered why Police has not come out with a statement update explaining the death of the bodyguard.

"I   wonder why Government though knows I lost a bodyguard has not deployed another bodyguard to keep me and my family. Therefore, I pray that am helped by Parliament that I have safety for myself and family because the death of my bodyguard has brought fear to me as a person and the people of Busia," he said.

He appealed to Parliament to pray for him and asked the Speaker to direct the IGP to immediately give him security as a senior citizen of this country and as someone who was reportedly a target for murder by the killers.

Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija on behalf of government promised to take on the matter to the highest level possible to ensure that Macho gets the protection he needs.
