Campaign trail: Museveni heads to Teso today

Nov 21, 2020

His entry district of Soroti was won by Dr. Kizza Besigye in the previous elections with 56.90% of the 86,606 registered voters.

President Yoweri Museveni will today take his campaign journey to Teso region as he seeks to be re-elected to the country's top seat.

He started his 2021 Presidential race in Luweero, then entered Lango, West Nile, and later connected to Acholi sub-region before heading to Karamoja, where he was yesterday.

He is now going to the Eastern part of the country. Of the 32 districts in Eastern Uganda, he is scheduled to be in only 12 districts due to the limited time of the campaigns for all candidates, thanks to COVID-19.

Museveni is today entering Teso region Uganda through Soroti. He will take a break on Sunday to address the nation on the security situation, before embarking on his journey in Kumi on Monday.

He may have an uphill task in some parts of Teso to convince them to elect him, going by the results of the 2016 General elections.

His entry district of Soroti was won by Dr. Kizza Besigye in the previous elections with 56.90% of the 86,606 registered voters. Museveni only received 38.01% in this district.

But Museveni did better than his main rival in Kumi, where at least 53.20% of the 68,896 of the registered voters, elected him.

Will he win over Eastern Uganda fully, or it's an uphill call? Time will tell. He is competing with 10 others for the country's top job.
