Nov 18, 2020

47 entries have been received for the three-day Africa Kwetu Fuel Economy Tour in the western districts of Uganda due November 20-22.

Clerk of the course Justin Mungoma confirmed this on Tuesday during the unveiling of new partners that included Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Hotel Triangle, Ministry of Health, Nyaika Hotel, and Rosefoam at a media briefing held at Hotel Triangle on Buganda Road.

Those who have registered shall on Thursday be subjected to COVID-19 tests during scrutineering at Total Nakawa before being confirmed.

"We want to assure all participants that they will be safe from COVID-19 because together with the Ministry of Health, all participants will on Thursday be tested during scrutineering before being allowed to compete," Mutale said.

At the same briefing, UWA director for tourism and business Steven Masaba promised the organisers continued support since their intentions match with theirs in the protection of the environment and the promotion of tourism.

"We have authorised you to fully make use of conservation of sceneries and game reserves because of your vision to promote tourism and safety. We shall continue to support you as we build our country," Masaba said before handing over the authorisation documents to Mutale.

The 950km adventure tour organised by the United Motorsport Club (UMOSPOC) and Enduro Uganda is meant to promote road safety, tourism, and environmental protection in the country.

Participants on day one will cover 340kms from Kampala to Kapeka, Bukomero, Kabwoya Game Reserve, and Hoima where they will plant Bamboo trees the next morning.

On day two, they will cover 230kms from Hoima through Kagadi, Semuliki National Game Park, and Sempaya Hot springs in Bundibugyo before spending a night in Fort Portal.

They will then finalise the tour by heading to Kasese, Kazinga Channel, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishaka Escarpments in Bushenyi and end the tour in Mbarara for the prize giving.
