KAMPALA - After twenty hours of very complex surgery, a team of specialists at Mulago National Specialized Hospital were able to separate Siamese twins.

"A team of specialists at Mulago specialized Hospital successfully carried out a 20-hour surgery to separate these Siamese twins. Thanks to the team. We continue to strive towards excellence in specialized health care," Dr. Diana Atwiine broke the news today on her verified Facebook account.

When contacted, Dr. Rosemary Byanyima, the deputy Executive Director Mulago Hospital, noted that though this is not the first time for the hospital to handle such an operation, this is the first complex case for medics to handle.

"The complexity of the operation makes it the first case to be handled by us. The twins were joined together at different parts of the body," she said, noting that the details will be provided at a press conference by experts in the afternoon on Tuesday (November 17, 2020).
