Suzan Muwonge registers for 900km Afrika Kwetu Fuel Economy Tour

Female rally driver Suzan Muwonge is plotting to prove to men that the COVID-19 pandemic has had little or no impact on her driving skills. 

The two-time national rally champion is the latest to sign up for the 900km Afrika Kwetu Fuel Economy Tour due November 20-22 in Hoima, Fort Portal, Kasese, and Mbarara. 

The event organised by United Motorsport Club and Enduro Uganda is meant to promote road safety, tourism, and environmental protection which is in line with the key objectives of the world motorsport governing body FIA. 

"It is a good idea for the drivers to learn more outside the stressful period of COVID and that is why I joined," Muwonge said. 

"I'm also talking to my team so that we can join the event as a team because I don't want to be there alone," she added. 

Muwonge joins other rally drivers including Ronald Ssebuguzi, Rajiv Ruparelia, Abdul Ssempebwa, and Abdul Kateete.

In the team category companies including World Wide Movers, Amputees Network, and Rosefoam and Roke Telecom have confirmed their participation.  

Participants on day one will cover 340kms from Kampala to Kapeka, Bukomero, Kabwoya Game Reserve, and Hoima where they will plant Bamboo trees the next morning. 

On day two, they will cover 230kms from Hoima through Kagadi, Semuliki National Game Park, and Sempaya Hot springs in Bundibugyo before spending a night in Fort Portal. 

They will then finalise the tour by heading to Kasese, Kazinga Channel, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishaka Escarpments in Bushenyi and end the tour in Mbarara for the prize giving.
