JINJA - The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has noted that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearers are broke and don't have money compared to other candidates who are campaigning for the 2021 general elections.

"Our (NRM) flag bearers are broke. The flag bearers are broke. They went through the primary election that was like a general election and spent a lot of money. The other parties did not have primaries, and they are fresh with money," Kadaga told journalists at the launch of the presidential manifesto in Busoga, Jinja.

The NRM held its primaries in September this year for party flagbearers which was a do or die situation for some candidates who used the money to buy support, print posters among others.

Violence was witnessed in some areas while some of the candidates who lost were nominated as independents.

The other political parties, like the National Unity Platform, Alliance for National Transformation, did not hold primaries, and candidates were merely selected.

The general elections will be held on January 14, 2021.
