A total of 25 persons with disability in Masindi district are all smiles after being supported with finances to buy artificial limbs, wheelchairs, and calipers.

Persons with disability are one of the community groups that face diverse challenges in their day-to-day fundamental endeavors; mobility being one of the challenges.

The persons with disability received a cheque worth sh3.85m to buy 15 wheelchairs, eight calipers, and two artificial limbs from Kinyara Sugar company on Friday (November 13, 2020).

The cheque was handed over to the District Social Services committee chairperson who is also the male counselor for disabled persons William Mwambu.

Mwambu, commended Kinyara for the support and called other stakeholders to come and support them.

‘‘These orthopedic mobility aids will facilitate our disabled people to regain their mobility and engage in gainful economic activities. This will not only improve their livelihoods but also boost their contribution to the social-economic development of the district.''Mwambu said.

He also made a special plea to the government to enhance its financial support to the disabled persons to access educational services since many of them have the zeal to acquire education but are constrained financially.

The support followed Mwambu's request to Kinyara, to support 25 PWDs as a means for them to be able to start a renewed journey of movement from point A to B.

"We were extremely humbled and compelled to compassionately offer our support. It gives us great satisfaction that we are a beam of hope in the lives of these Persons with Disability who will soon be able to move and enhance their livelihoods.'' Mathias Wanok, the Communications Manager of Kinyara Sugar Limited said.

He added that this is just one of the many ways in which Kinyara Sugar enhances lives and that the organisation will continue to advantage the community as a promise to improving livelihoods.

"We decided to come in because we know the plight persons with disabilities go through," Wanok said.

He said they will continue to make a positive difference in the Kinyara-Masindi Community and Uganda as a whole.
