MUKONO - The Police in Mukono district has Saturday (November 14, 2020) afternoon conducted an operation where they arrested 83 drug dealers and consumers.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Police Metropolitan Deputy Spokesman said that the operation was conducted between 12:00-1:25 pm.

Owoyesigyire retaliated that the operation was conducted in areas of Benghazi, Wantoni Cell, and Nassuuti Cell in Mukono Central division.

The suspects were arrested from bars, video halls, restaurants, and some places where people gather and smoke marijuana.

"We are holding them on charges of being in possession of opium, frequenting places for smoking opium, and disobedience of lawful orders. We are likely to present them to court on Monday after the screening," Oweyesigire said.

He explained that the operation came after the commanders of Mukono division Police got information that there were persons who had made it a routine to smoke from those places, something which had put the security of those places in danger.

Mukono division Police Commander, Abubaker Musiho said that this is just the beginning of such operations, intending to have all the criminals arrested as the country is getting into the Christmas festival.

"We are going to have abrupt but routine operation until we feel that the whole Police division is secure," he said.

The suspects are being held at Mukono division Police headquarters pending prosecution.
