Fishermen on Lake George wary of crocodiles

Bernard Tumwine, the chairperson of the Mahyoro Bariya's Development Association, said the huge reptiles have, this year alone, killed 10 fishermen and injured six others.

Fishermen on Lake George's Mahyoro landing site in Kitagwenda district have asked the Government to strengthen safety measures on the lake, following increased attacks by crocodiles on the community.

Bernard Tumwine, the chairperson of the Mahyoro Bariya's Development Association, said the huge reptiles have, this year alone, killed 10 fishermen and injured six others.

Tumwine asked the Uganda Wildlife Authority to erect barriers that they hope will help restrict the movements of reptiles.

Yahaya Tabaro, 34, a fisherman, said he narrowly escaped being devoured in a crocodile attack, which left him injured and now walks with the aid of crutches.
