Police arrest man over death of pregnant girlfriend

Nov 07, 2020

Man had been forced to marry 17-year-old pregnant girl

Upon exhuming the decomposing body of a 17-year-old girl who had gone missing, Police led by Entebbe OC/CID Herbert Rugubwa have arrested one Peter Musoke Lule for allegedly killing Margaret Abbasa.

Abbasa had been reported missing since October 30 and a case file was opened up at Kasanje Police post.

"We last saw her with the boyfriend, Musoke, who is a fisherman at Kagulube landing site, Ziba-Kasanje," confided a source that preferred to remain anonymous.

Another resident confided that Musoke had rented a room for Abbasa at Ziba trading centre, from where he allegedly murdered his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend.

Upon interrogation, Musoke is reported to have confessed to killing his girlfriend, accusing her of carrying a pregnancy which was not his.

"He contends that Abbasa's relatives had forced him to accept responsibility for the pregnancy lest they take him to the Police and he is charged with defilement. He, therefore, murdered her for fear of being arrested and imprisoned," intimated a Police source privy to investigations.

A preliminary examination indicates that the body was found half-covered with soil in a maize garden of one Francis Luzzi of Zziba, Kasanje.

"Upon examination, the deceased was found pregnant and covered while in a prone position. Photos, sketch plan, soil sample, statements from different people were taken and blood swabbed from the suspect among other necessary data which may be relevant for our investigations," confided another source at Kasanje Police post.

A case of murder vide CRB 129/2020 was opened up at Kasanje Police whereas the body was taken to the city mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examination as inquiries into the matter continue.
