Former Bunyoro Premier, ex- NSSF Deputy MD Barongo passes on

The former Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kingdom, who was at one time the Deputy Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Yoram Rufunda Barongo has passed on.

He died on Friday at his home in Muyenga, Kampala district.

According to the family, there will be a funeral service at St. Stephen's Church of Uganda, Kisugu, Muyenga on Saturday November 07, at 9:30am.

The body will later be transported to Hoima, where it will be laid in state at Rukurato Hall at 3 pm.

Another funeral service will be held at 4:30 pm in St. Peter's Cathedral, Duhaga in Hoima;

Burial will take place on Sunday, November 8, at Nyakafunjo Village, starting at 11 am.

Barongo is also remembered as having been the first Prime minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom after the restoration of Kingdoms by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government in 1994. Barongo was Bunyoro Kingdom's Prime Minister from 1994 to 1999.

He was appointed as substantive NSSF managing director on January 6, 1999, before leaving the Fund a few years later. He also one time worked as acting managing director of NSSF.

He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Dublin and was also a Professor at Makerere University.

He was married to Evangeline Ledi Barongo; who is now one of the country's most experienced children's books author.

She is the founder of the Children Writers Association (CWA) and important author and contributor to Children's Literature in Uganda.
