Salma Kairungi has been hired as the new U20 national team manager and will help take care of the team ahead if the U20 Championship set for December.

Kairungi is not new to this role as she manages Nkumba University Volleyball Club women's team. She has helped the team during the last two seasons even traveling with them to the Africa Club Championships in Egypt and Nkumba B's tour of Udine in Italy.

"It's always a pleasure to serve. I will be going to Western Uganda next week after I take my COVID test, then I will see what's on the ground," Kairungi said.

She was only appointed a few days ago and has plans to get to know her technical team better hence her trip to Isingiro.

She is otherwise positive about the championships although the government has not yet given the go ahead for indoor sports.

"We are working closely with the NCS, they are aware we are training but for now we are training on a grass court," she said.

The team has been training in Isingiro under the tutelage of coach Alex Mbaine at Boni Consilii Girls' Vocational Secondary School.

The summoned team will camp there for two weeks and return to Kampala later this month to get a feel of the indoor stadium.

Tanzania, Egypt, Tunisia and Cameroon are expected to join Uganda in the tournament set for December 4 to 13 in Kampala.
