Party LCs warned against campaigning for opposition

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Mbale district chairperson, Muhamud Masaba, has said party village chairpersons found campaigning for independent candidates and those from the opposition will lose the motorcycles and bicycles that the party gave them.

Masaba sounded the warning on Monday while addressing NRM chairpersons and selected supporters who turned up to celebrate the nomination of President Yoweri Museveni to contest for another term of office.

The function took place at Hotel One Hundred in Mbale city.

"We have received information that some of the village NRM chairpersons who received motorcycles and bicycles recently, have started using them to mobilise votes for independent candidates, as well as the Opposition," he said.

"We cannot give you a gun and you use it to hold rebellion against us. We are the deploying officers. If you misuse the gun, we shall withdraw it from you."

Masaba said it was not ethical for any NRM party leader to support the Opposition at night and pretend to be party supporters during the day.

He noted that some chairpersons had turned into spies for independent candidates.
