Mayuge district health officer dead

Mayuge residents are mourning the death of the district health officer, Dr. Charles Nabangi.

Paul Muzige, the Mayuge district Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) confirmed Nabangi's death that occurred on Monday evening at Nile International hospital Jinja, where he was rushed a few hours following an attack.

According to the district senior communication officer, Lukiah Kakai, Nabangi died of high blood pressure.

"The hospital has confirmed that the cause of his death is high blood pressure," Kakai said.

Who was Nabangi?

Nabangi served as a medical doctor at St. Francis Hospital Buluba in Baitambogwe sub-county before he was appointed the district health officer.

"He was calm, humble, and very patient," Muzige said adding that Nabangi was hardworking and dedicated.

He will be remembered for his developmental initiatives and advocating for better health services in the district.

Nabangi's death comes hardly a year after the passing of the district Internal Auditor Charles Kiige, who perished in an accident in Namasoga  village along Iganga- Jinja highway and Dr. Ibrahim Gwaluka, the former in charge of Kigandalo health centre IV, Mayuge who was gunned down by unknown assailants in December 2018 at his home in Bulubandi B village in Iganga district.

Nabangi will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Namunkanaga village in Namungalwe sub-county, Iganga district on Wednesday.
