NEBBI - The spike in the number of Congolese crossing into Uganda has caused fear among health experts and leaders in Nebbi district over the potential spread of COVID-19.

The situation is being exacerbated by the failure by the locals to follow the health ministry standard operating procedures, Isaac Ochora, the COVID-19 surveillance officer for Nebbi, said.

Nebbi has registered 75 COVID-19 positive cases out of the over 3,000 tests carried out since the first case was reported in the country in March this year.

Ochora said there could be more people infected with the disease, only that they are asymptomatic.

He said at the moment, they do not carry out tests, except for those who go to hospital showing COVID-19 signs and symptoms.
