MASINDI - Masindi leaders and residents have voiced their concerns over a 30km stretch of Masindi Port Road that was left out of the recently commissioned 191km road works from Rwenkunyu to Puranga town last Wednesday (October 21, 2020).

Sarah Birungi, a resident of Kinumi cell in Miirya sub-county, said they cannot access any service in Masindi town because the road is impassable.

"We have now resorted to traditional birth attendants because we have no access to hospitals and the health centres due to the rising water levels," she added.

Peter Tumuhimbise, a resident of Kahaara village in Miirya sub-county, said his vehicle breaks down every day because of the high water levels on the road.

"We ask the Government to tarmac this road because it has big swamps. The water levels in Kiyanja swamp, which is almost a mile long, are rising. Two villages are submerged and transport has been paralysed," George William Kiiza, the LC3 chairperson Miirya sub-county, said.

The road maintenance engineer at Masindi Uganda National Roads Authority station, Peter Kigenyi, said they have received funds for road works in the swamp.

Bunyoro affairs state minister Ernest Kiiza also said the road is going to be worked on in the next financial year.
