Gov't unveils committee to guide 2021/2022 national budget

According to the Public Finance Management Act, government is required to present to parliament the draft national budget for the following financial year before the end of December.

Government has unveiled the Presidential Advisory Committee on Budget (PACOB) which has been charged with the responsibility of guiding  the formulation of the national budget for the 2021/2022 financial year.

According to the Public Finance Management Act, government is required to present to parliament the draft national budget for the following financial year before the end of December.

The committee will be headed by the Kachumbala County MP, Jacob Isiagi Opolot who is also currently the vice chairperson of the parliament budget .

While launching the committee on Monday, the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda asked the team to help government in ensuring resources for the 2021/2021 are allocated to necessary interventions for improving the lives of Ugandans.

The Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa, who coordinated the event, asked the committee to ensure that in their deliberations for the 2021/2022 national budget they are guided by the 23 strategic guidelines issued by President Yoweri Museveni which are meant to guide government entities in pursuing the realisation of the middle income status for the country.

Nankabirwa noted that the committee is expected to submit their report to the President before the end of November.

Other members of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Budget (PACOB) include Timothy Lwanga who will serve as the Vice Chairperson, Nakaseke North MP Syda Bumba, Luweero woman MP Eng. Lillian Nakate, Ntenjeru North MP Amos Lugoloobi, Kumi County MP Charles Illukor, Nakifuma County MP Kafeero Ssekitoleko, Mbarara municipality MP Micheal Tusiime, Pallisa County MP Jacob Opolot, Abim woman MP Janet Okori Moe, Entebbe municipality MP Rosemary Tumusiime, Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi, and  Butaleja woman MP Milly Mugeni.

Other members are; Mwenge County South MP Aston Kajara, Mawokota South MP Lubyayi Sseguya, and Kiboga East MP Dr. Kefa Kiwanuka.

Commenting on the task given to his committee, Isiagi said, "Our task is to guide to ensure resources are allocated to the priorities set in NDPIII. The NDPII priorities are very good and if we ensure that the national budget is in line with those priorities, our economy will grow faster."
