They will use this opportunity to sensitise the public that people with disabilities can do what a normal person does

Amputees under the umbrella of the Amputee Self Help Network Uganda are excited to be part of the inaugural three-day Uganda Motor Fuel Economy Tour due November 20-22 in western Uganda.

Alex Munyambabazi, the founder of the Amputee Self Help Network Uganda disclosed this on Saturday at the National Council of Sports offices Lugogo after registering their team's entry.

He said that they will use this opportunity to sensitise the public that people with disabilities can do what a normal person does.

"Many organisations exclude us in their activities because of our disability, but I hope this will be an eye opener to them, that if we can participate in tough activities like this 900km tour challenge, then we are good to go into other activities," he said.

"We want to show that people with disabilities can also play a big role in the development of a nation just like other human beings," Munyambabazi said.

Tendo Mutale, the event manager lauded the amputees for the initiative and urged others to join.

"I'm very humbled to receive a team of amputees determined to put forth a challenge. This is very good and is a sign that in motorsport everyone is welcome," Mutale said.

The tour is to promote domestic tourism, climate change by planting trees and changing the drivers' attitude to promote road safety.

Participants on day one leave Kampala for Kapeka, Kabwoya Game Reserve and spend a night in Hoima where they are expected to plant bamboo trees.

On day two, they will cover parts of Hoima, Kagadi, Semuliki National Game Park and Sempaya Hot Springs in Bundibugyo before spending a night in Fort Portal.

They will then finalise the tour by heading to the Kazinga Channel, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishaka Escapements in Bushenyi and end the tour in Mbarara.

The 900km adventure tour is organised by United Motorsport Club and Enduro Club Uganda.
