Lay Canon Rushambuza: Bushenyi strongman dies at 93

 Lay Canon Zabron Rushambuza, a strong pillar in Bushenyi district, has died at the age of 93.

His death was reported by Rev. Ben Jackson Bitungirwe, the acting secretary general of the Abagoma clan on Sunday.

'This is to announce the passing on of Lay Canon Zabron Rushambuza Aimukama, who passed on today. Burial arrangements will be will be communicated in the due course," he said in his message.

Rushambuza is said to have died at his home in Ntungamo cell, Nyakabirizi in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.

He was the chairman of Batizi ba Bagoma from Kyeitembe village in Bushenyi.

Described as a man who "loved people, loved his country and most of all loved God", Rushambuza loved religion and was one of the people who built Nyakabirizi Church of Uganda.

Rushambuza was the first person to start brick making in Bushenyi, and is said to have built most of the structures in the district. He was among the first people to build a storeyed house in Bushenyi.

The lay canon is said to have been one of the first people to have a Friesian cow in Bushenyi.
