Bagalana makes leap as Safari Tour rages on

Oct 22, 2020

This was an improvement from his previous outing

Professional Ugandan golfer Abbey Bagalana made a great leap as the third leg of the Safari Tour ended at the Vetlab Golf Club in Nairobi on Wednesday.

The sole Ugandan who made the cut in the event finished off with an eight-over par 80, for a total score of 18-over 306; to finish 16th out of the 20 golfers that made the cut to partake in the sh25m prize money.

This was an improvement from his previous outing and his poor finish can be blamed on a shoulder injury he sustained during the third round. But he would be happy that he was able to earn more money than he made in the second leg at Royal Nairobi.

Bagalana picked sh600,000 which should give him enough motivation since he had not managed to scale such heights in the previous editions of the tour.

He made his maiden cut from the Royal Nairobi Golf Club where he picked 13 points and will now be hoping to accumulate even more in the fourth leg at Sigona Golf Club, October 24-28.

Phillip Kasozi who is yet to make the cut on the tour this season is also in the fray at Sigona.

Last year's top tour player Dismas Indiza won the Vetlab leg with an under four-284 to beat Royal Nairobi winner Zimbabwe's Robinson Chinhoi to the top spot by two strokes.

The Sigona leg is the fourth in a series of 12 tournaments that will constitute the 2020/21 Safari Tour, which will see golfers play in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, culminating with the 2021 Magical Kenya Open hosted at the Karen Country Club in March 2021.
