Naome A. Kabasharira, the former Ntungamo district Woman Member of Parliament and one of the Rushenyi county Parliamentary candidates who were nominated recently has vowed to unseat the incumbent MP Mwesigwa Rukutana in the parliamentary elections scheduled to take place next year.

Rukutana is the State Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations.

Addressing a press conference shortly after being nominated, Kabasharira noted that the Rushenyi people asked her to contest as an Independent candidate because the people were unhappy after winning the NRM primaries, later the results were changed, and the flag was given to Rukutana.

She said this angered the people and they asked her to come and contest as an Independent.

"The people of Rushenyi want change because Hon.Rukutana has been the area MP since 1994 and as someone who has been a Cabinet minister he has not delivered much as expected," Kabasharira said.

Kabasharira (who chose a watch as her campaign symbol) was nominated on the first day of the nomination exercise by the Ntungamo district returning officer, Robert  Baine, her name was proposed by Norman Beingana Kashereka and seconded by Counsel Justus Karuhanga.

Hon. Mwesigwa Rukutana (NRM) the incumbent MP was the first to access the nomination venue.

Speaking to the press, Rukutana said he was sure that he is going to win the election and retain his seat because the people of Rushenyi like NRM and they know the good things he has done for them during his reign as Member of Parliament.

Others who were nominated include Dr. Benjamin Bimanywa-Ruhanga (FDC) .  The fourth candidate to be nominated was Kahumuza Eric (Independent).
