Kitara FC defeated Kiboga Young 1-0 in the FUFA Big league playoff final on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru to earn promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

The end-to-end encounter saw both sides play to a goalless draw in the first half with both sides guilty of missing several scoring opportunities.

However in the second half, Kitara stepped things up and they were rewarded in the 55th minute when striker Brian Muluuli Mayanja scored past Kiboga Young goalkeeper Stephen Makumbi in the box to give Kitara the lead.

Kitara players celebrate promotion by throwing coach Mark Twinamatsiko in the air.

Mayanja and midfielder Jamil Nvule Kisitu spurned several chances to double Kitara's lead and were almost made to pay for their profligacy but defender Musa Docca cleared a goal-bound effort off the line.

Kitara held on for the win to become the second team coached by Mark Twinamatisko to get promoted to the top flight after Saints FC in 2015.

The victory saw Kitara join MYDA FC (Malaba Youth Development Association) and UPDF as the promoted sides from the Big League.
