Independent candidates dominate elections

The report from the office of the Gulu district returning officer indicates that only seven candidates were nominated as flag-bearers for political parties.

POLITICS|ELECTION WATCH 

GULU - Most of the candidates who were nominated to vie for MP positions in Gulu city are independents, 22 in total.

The constituencies are Laroo-Pece Division, Bar-dege/Layibi Division and that of the Woman MP.

The report from the office of the Gulu district returning officer indicates that only seven candidates were nominated as flag-bearers for political parties.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has three candidates, National Unity Platform two and Alliance for National Transformation one candidate.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) nominated three candidates.

The three candidates of the Democratic Party (DP) include the incumbent MP for Gulu Municipality, Lyandro Komakech (nominated for the new Bar-dege-Layibi Division MP seat), Simon Opoka for Laroo-Pece (Gulu East) MP seat and Jolly Grace Laker for Gulu City Woman MP.

The other five candidates challenging the incumbent Gulu Woman MP are Jolly Grace Laker (DP) Rosemary Atim (independent), Vento Auma (independent), Marie Lapolo Shaka (NRM) and Christine Atimango Odongo (independent).
